Gakuen Alice

Gakuen Alice (translated: "Alice Academy") is about a 10-year old girl named Mikan Sakura, who runs away from home in order to follow her best friend, Hotaru Imai to a school for "genius" children in Tokyo. Mikan eventually discovers that Alice Academy, is not what it seems but infact is a school only for kids who have special powers known as an "Alice". Narumi, a teacher from the school, immediately discovers that Mikan has a very unique Alice and so she is admitted into the academy. The overall anime follows Mikan in her adventures in the school and her relationships with the many different Alice students.

The manga, on the other hand, touches on more serious events that Mikan is involved in. Her view of the school slowly changes throughout the manga. She gradually discovers that underneath the facade of the school, are lies and deception.

The anime consists of 26 episodes. The manga is still going.

I thought the anime was very funny and interesting. At first I got the impression that it was going to be stupid but once you watch the first three episodes you realize it's actually very humorous and clever. The whole idea of naming special powers as an"Alice" is an original idea and I enjoyed this series very much. I recommend everyone watch it.
